KK Beverages Reaffirms Commitment to Workers’ Welfare, Rule of Law, and Responsible Corporate Conduct
By Abdul Rahman Suagibu
KK Beverages has reaffirmed its commitment to lawful business practices, workers’ welfare, and cordial industrial relations following the resolution of a workplace incident that recently attracted significant public attention.
According to information provided by the company, the matter, which arose from an alleged case of workplace misconduct, was addressed through the appropriate legal and administrative channels, with the active involvement of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), IG, Imagration, Human right organization, NRA and other relevant state institutions. Company representatives expressed appreciation for the professionalism demonstrated by the authorities in facilitating a peaceful, lawful, and amicable resolution.
Some media outlets have been defaming and slandering KK Company. (like Sierraloaded,CBJ-SL,and Hot News.)
Based on the facts, we would like to make the following clarifications:
1. Management expressed concerns over what it described as inaccurate and misleading reports circulated on certain media and social media platforms during the period of the incident. The company specifically noted that an image widely shared online and purportedly depicting events at the company’s premises was an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated, entirely fabricated, and bore no resemblance to the actual circumstances surrounding the incident. Upon closer inspection, the victim’s head in the image appears to be attached to their arm. Multiple media outlets have used this fake image.
2. Multiple media outlets reported that Algassimu Barrie was a law-abiding citizen who was innocently assaulted. However, they deliberately ignored the fact that he was a thief. It was his theft that triggered the subsequent events.
3. According to CID verification, Algassimu Barrie’s back was struck with a thin piece of cork, which explains his back injuries. These injuries were primarily caused by security guards disciplining him and have nothing to do with any Chinese nationals. He has been able to participate in various activities normally since the incident and has not been hospitalized.
4. The Chinese employee has been repatriated. The Chinese national has left Sierra Leone under orders from the Labor Bureau.
5. Some media outlets got the date wrong, differing by two weeks. They claimed KK Beverages was involved with terrorism, that KK violated local laws. These claims have crossed the line of journalistic neutrality. They said KK Company didn’t pay Barrie’s medical expenses, when in fact; the Company paid the medical bills in the presence of the CID and received receipts.
According to KK Beverages, the image was created and circulated in a manner that unfairly portrayed the company in a negative light and misled sections of the public. The company maintained that the publication and circulation of such fabricated visual content, together with what it described as misleading narratives, did not accurately reflect the facts established through the official investigations. Management therefore urged media practitioners and members of the public to rely on verified information from competent state institutions rather than unverified online content or manipulated digital material.

Management stated that while a number of reports circulating on various platforms presented differing accounts of the incident, the company deliberately chose to cooperate fully with the competent authorities instead of engaging in public exchanges. It maintained that respect for due process and institutional mechanisms remains the most appropriate avenue for resolving industrial disputes.
The company further disclosed that concerns raised by all parties were examined by the relevant authorities, resulting in an amicable settlement in accordance with Sierra Leone’s labour laws and established procedures. KK Beverages noted that it remains committed to complying with every lawful directive issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and other regulatory agencies. The Company reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on theft, fraud, and other forms of workplace misconduct while emphasizing that disciplinary matter should always be handled within the framework of the law and with full respect for the rights and dignity of every employee.

The company stressed that it remains committed to providing a safe, respectful, inclusive, and productive working environment where labour rights and corporate responsibilities are fully upheld.
